Peter Parker is an unhappy man: after two years of fighting crime as Spider-Man, his life has begun to fall apart. The girl he loves is engaged to someone else, his grades are slipping, he cannot keep any of his jobs, and on top of it, the newspaper Daily Bugle is attacking him viciously, claiming that Spider-Man is a criminal. He reaches the breaking point and gives up the crime fighter's life, once and for all. But after a failed fusion experiment, eccentric and obsessive scientist Dr. Otto Octavius is transformed into super villain Doctor Octopus, Doc Ock for short, having four long tentacles as extra hands. Peter guesses it might just be time for Spider-Man to return, but would he act upon it?
When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-Man for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's hatred for Spider-Man and his true love's sudden engagement to another man.
The very first Spider-Man was great. Awesome CG along with a great storyline. Spider-Man 2 on the other hand was very depressing in the beginning. Actually it was depressing thru over 3/4 of the movie with Peter always failing at everything he attempted. I was almost ready just to turn off the movie until things changed near the end. Whom ever came up with the idea of him being exposed in the train scene to the public and then to his best friend and girlfriend just ruined the movie. It was a terrible last minute bring it all together in the last 10 minutes of the movie solution. The writers were not very creative in the script and could have done much better. In conclusion… I would rent this before purchasing it.
This review is targeted at thirty somethings like myself who consider our time valuable. I generally enjoy comics (reading, not collecting) and especially like Spiderman. DISCLAIMER: THIS POST DOES LOOSELY DISCUSS THE END.<br/><br/>The movie is quite disappointing from the get go. It starts off very slowly which I don&#39;t usually mind but it never gets off the ground. His love interest is completely a pre-teen fantasy of an adoring lover who looks past all his shortcomings. I realize that this movie panders to that crowd but the adoring little girlfriend is painfully cliché. The bad guy, Doc Oc is actually not all that bad but I found that to be the only refreshing part of the movie. The plot meandered through his personal life, which is completely uninteresting in the movie but acceptable in the comic. The pop psychology littered throughout was the most painful like when his old aunt goes on about Spidey being a good role model and the world needing heroes. The ending is excruciating with the heroic rescue and romance. As B-movie as you can ever get with such a high budget flick. Not sure how so many people loved it.<br/><br/>All in all, save yourself the time, money and aggravation, Cheers, Enn.
It's refreshing to witness a superhero with doubts. Maguire and Dunst again display the depth of talent they bring to these roles by injecting such everydayness into larger-than-life characters.

We should have seen a very large column of steam rising out of the river, but it is a detail that was probably over looked or not even considered. Basically, there are three different cuts available throughout the world. First of all, there is the well-known theatrical version¹ that has been altered prior to the British cinema release² by Sony and unfortunately found its way to nearly all PAL DVDs. One headbutt has been replaced with a normal punch. The US DVD is uncut.Then, just in time for the theatrical release of <a href="/title/tt0413300/">Spider-Man 3 (2007)</a> an Extended Cut³ has been released to the home media market that runs approximately 8 minutes longer than the theatrical version. This extended version features several different kind of new scenes—story extensions, romance, action—but in principle this extended version is only worth for the die-hard fan. And by the way, the European versions of the Extended Cut are still altered in the same way as the theatrical version, thanks to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and Sony.
